DM Moves Saves Model From Runway Fiasco
====================================
March 27th, 2010, Hyatt Hotel Grand Ballroom Rosemont, IL
Adelle Canares-Jackson has been a fashion model for over 20 plus years. On the eve of the Celebrity Fashion Gala Show, she was one of the directors for the show and also one of the Star Models that showcased Fashion Designed clothes for a Philippine Benefit at the Hyatt Hotel Grand Ballroom in Rosemont, IL. Modeling is an Art form where walking the runway is a big deal. When Adelle modeled the outfit for Jun Jun Escario/Alexis Monsanto/Mario Colminares that night, there was some sort of footwear problem. She was wearing shoes one size bigger. Upon her initial walk, this created a problem and she was off balanced and fell when the right ankle gave in. Lucky for Adelle, she has had Filipino Martial Arts training and was able to maneuver her body to take the brunt of the fall on her leg and knee area with what is known as the Sempok position in Silat to salvage her from any injuries. Upon falling, the Semok position allows one to rebound right away on your feet or transition to another position to avoid any danger especially in a combat scenario. Models do not put themselves into combat situation but learning combat skills can aid models in such dangerous scenarios and can develop useful attributes for their professions. Years of Filipino Martial Arts training, Defensor Method in particular , has prepared Adelle to be combat-ready. So a runway fall is just merely akin to doing warmups in a typical Filipino Martial Arts Class.
Adelle Canares-Jackson has been training in Defensor Method of Filipino Martial Arts in the Chicagoland area and is one of the certified instructors in the Art. Originally from Cebu, at 16 she started modeling and at 17 was a Finalist for the Binibining Pilipinas in Cebu. She has been doing Runway Modeling and have been a Print Ads Model for a number of years. She is also a devoted mother of two and an avid Martial Artist.
The Martial Move Adelle made during the Runway Accident/non-Accident, is a type of footwork she has been practicing called Sempok-Dempok Exercise in most Pentjak-Silat and Eskrima systems. It is also known as the Cross Step done in several variations so one can utilize it in different scenarios. One can do a 180 degree & 360 degree twist Sempok, one can go forward or backward, or one can leap and land cross-legged on the floor and twist out of it ending in a stand up position with legs shoulder width. The Sempok is also taught so one can recover from a fall and one can fight or deliver various striking arsenals from the kneel or sitting positions. Upon recovery or upon rebounding off the Sempok, one can kick or strike or use a weapon on one's hand to deliver blows to an opponent. This cross step maneuver is somewhat of a prerequisite skill in some systems to be considered as an advanced practitioner of Pentjak-Silat or Eskrima. Adelle's adeptness to this maneuver classifies her as an advance practitioner. So ladies and gentlemen, runway models and common folks, learning skills in Filipinio Martial Arts can save you from further injuries in life, as evident of Adelle's recent incident in the Runway! Stay safe, walk gingerly, and carry a big Stick! Spread the word that Martial Arts skills can enhance your Runway savviness.

Good Job Adelle!!!
That is awesome! I am very happy for you!
Me and a practice partner of mine in Uncles class were just talking to the importance of the siloh (or twisted horse in Kuntao amongst many other names:)
I am very impressed!
